Volunteer Testimonials
"Volunteering keeps me active. It’s an opportunity to help others and I enjoy the association of fellow volunteers and staff. Several times I have prayed with clients that had big problems such as a serious condition or came out of very unfortunate circumstances. It made me feel like I was asking God to help this person and encourage them."

"It’s a privilege to be a volunteer at Good Neighbor House and help those in need. My favorite part about working here is working in the furniture department and with volunteers from other departments. The clients seem happy and satisfied when we give them things. Working in Good Neighbor House is like giving back in the community after someone has helped you. God will be very happy and give you a reward in heaven for what you do at Good Neighbor House "well done thou good and faithful servant."
--Elias Rivera, GNH Volunteer since 2006
"I volunteer because there is such is great need in our community for people that need help. My heart just goes out to them. That is my main reason to be a volunteer. There is nothing like helping someone when they have problems and if you can help make someone’s life just a little bit better it’s well worth the time. The rewards for being a volunteer are being able to help people that is a reward in itself. If you are reaching out and try to do what Jesus would do if He was in the same situation that is your reward.
I started volunteering here in 1994 and my husband started just a little bit afterwards. It’s fun to volunteer as a couple because we have more to share and the more we share the closer we grow too."

"I work as a volunteer at GNH through Dayton Urban League in the Senior Resource Program. I’ve worked in other locations but I love it here the best. I get to meet so many people. The other volunteers are really nice and I love to help people. The best thing about volunteering here is how many friendly people you get to meet. I like helping the clients. I have come here before needing help and I really liked the prayers. I like that God has blessed me and now I am blessing back. It’s fun when a new mom brings in a small child and is able to get clothing and I can help them find things for the baby."--LaNetta Day, GNH Volunteer since 2007
"We had off and on been involved with the Dorcas program and I was not involved in this program here but when I heard about it I thought it was a very good idea. The day they had open house in the building we are in, I told the architect that I thought he was a miracle worker. I like the people I work with here and when I was a nurse I worked in various hospitals. I enjoy being here and being useful that is a part of my heritage-to be useful. If you like people and you like the feeling of being helpful then it’s a good idea to volunteer here. I can help more people here at GNH than I could on my own if I was not coming here. Our caseload right now is increasing and I know things like the company’s that are closing are affecting how many people are coming in our door. I had a man today that I interviewed who had worked for 26 years for the same company and they just let him go because they do not have work. I felt very sorry for him but was glad that we are here and were able to help him. I think it’s a privilege to be able to serve people, I have been a nurse and a chaplain and I have discovered there is no difference between the very wealthy and those who are extremely poor-neither has a corner on kindness-or arrogancy."
